Social Index Value

What if you could apply a social index value to members of your social network? A number that would represent how “important” that contact is. Importance could be defined as who they know, what type of business they could bring to the company, if they have season tickets to your favorite team and many other factors. Using some kind of weighting system or algorithm, you could turn these importance factors into a number which would allow you to rank your contacts. This would allow you to prioritize who you needed to stay in touch with and maybe make sorting out your calendar easier.

I find myself, far too often, re-acting to who has just emailed or called. Somehow these contacts jump to the head of the line and get top billing over an important contact I went to school with and have been trying to schedule a lunch with for months.

Another factor in this index value would be how often you are communicating with these contacts now and how often they are communicating with you. I will save that topic for a future post.
